Grilled Shrimp Recipe
Fresh Gulf Shrimp is one of my favorite foods. This Simple Cajun Grilled Shrimp recipe is my own and I hope you like it. It's always a big hit when entertaining.
Ingredients for grilled shrimp:
- 4-6 - Fresh white, jumbo Gulf Shrimp (per person) ( not FROZEN shrimp !)
- 1/2 cup - Your favorite Italian salad dressing. ( oil and vinegar based)
- 1/3 cup sliced onions
- 1/2 cup - Your favorite BBQ sauce. ( I use "Sweet Baby Ray's"- original )
- Ball's General purpose Cajun seasoning or for a lighter taste, Lawry's seasoned salt to taste.
- 1 tsp Black pepper
Method:
Except for the shrimp, combine all the ingredients in a bowl large enough to hold them and the shrimp, too. Mix well and set aside. If you want, you can use a pan and gently heat the mixture until the onions begin to wilt and turn clear. Some say it tastes better after heating it.
Gently remove most of the peelings from your shrimp, leaving the tail on. Some people prefer not to peel the shrimp before grilling, but I think peeling them allows them to soak up more of the marinade.
Add the partially peeled shrimp to the marinade, put the bowl in the fridge and let it sit for at LEAST 20 min.
Set your grill or stove top to medium high heat, remove the shrimp from the marinade, toss them on the grill, using skewers if needed and cook quickly, sprinkling some Cajun seasoning or seasoned salt over them.
DO NOT OVERCOOK the shrimp ! It only takes 2-3 minutes or less on each side for shrimp to cook, depending upon the heat setting on your grill or stovetop.
Once the tail shells turn dark pink or red, the shrimp are nearly done.
Remove one and sample it. It should be slightly firm, but not hard. If it's mushy, it needs to cook longer....if it's hard.....you've over cooked it. Cooking shrimp too long produces nothing more than a marinated piece of rubber, so please take care and don't overcook them.
Serve the grilled shrimp hot.
I like to toss a few on top of a grilled steak just before eating.
Enjoy !
